Why Rest Is the Most Powerful Healing Tool for Women Who Are Always "The Strong One"

If You’re Tired of Holding It All Together, This Is for You

If you're known as the strong one—the reliable friend, the therapist who holds it all together, the high-achiever who never drops the ball—this post is your permission slip to rest. Not just nap-between-meetings rest. But soul-deep, “I’m allowed to fall apart and still be worthy” kind of rest.

Because high-functioning burnout isn’t a badge of honor—it’s a cry for help. And when I finally stopped performing my strength, I discovered something radical: rest is a rebirth.

The Unseen Exhaustion of Being “The Strong One”

Strength is often praised. But what most people don’t realize is how performative it can become—especially for women raised to believe their worth is tied to how much they can endure.

We become masters of self-abandonment. We help others through their crises while quietly drowning in our own. We make breakdowns look like breakthroughs. We smile while our nervous systems scream.

But strength without softness? That’s survival mode. And I didn’t want to survive anymore. I wanted to heal.

Why I Took a Day of Unapologetic Rest

I’ve been doing some deep inner work. Not just surface-level affirmations—but actual reprogramming. I’ve been basking in my limitlessness by calling in a new life for myself. A life that would have been unfathomable 6 years ago, but because of my dedication to evolving beyond the widely accepted, yet highly limiting paradigm called societal expectations, it is now within my reach.

During my time of rest, I chose to celebrate myself for having the audacity to believe in my talents and to dream as wildly and boldly as a "naive" child. I’d long ago decided that my soul needed liberation from the prison that adulthood and expectations pushed me into—exploiting insecurities that stemmed from childhood abandonment and abuse.

I just wanted to feel accepted. To be good enough. But that need for validation gifted me with depression, burnout, and panic attacks that made me think my heart was in trouble, though I was a perfectly healthy 27-year-old.

In hindsight, it only makes sense that my spiritual awakening happened the next year.

Although I wasn’t yet fluent in its language, I can see now that my younger self was constantly receiving messages warning me that I was out of alignment. Messages I called anxiety, bad days, and bad luck. Messages I tuned out with boys and booze… until those things stopped working.

Rest Showed Me the Truth About My Pain

During my day of radical rest, I didn’t try to fix anything. I let myself be.

No goals. No productivity. No "working on myself." Just silence, softness, and surrender.

And that’s when the truth came: I had been performing strength because I didn’t believe I was allowed to be seen in my softness.

But rest taught me that softness isn’t weakness. It’s power.

How Journaling Helped Me Stop Performing Strength

One of the most powerful tools I’ve used on this healing journey is journaling. Not the “dear diary” kind (though that’s beautiful too)—but intentional journaling that:

  • Helped me see my patterns
  • Gave my inner child a voice
  • Let my emotions exist without needing to be productive

Through guided prompts, shadow work, and nervous system check-ins, I built a relationship with myself that didn’t depend on external performance.

And that’s why I created offerings like the Bold Boundaries Blueprint—for women like us who are tired of leaking our power trying to keep the peace, keep the pace, and keep everyone else happy.
